The 2012 season was met with high expectations from fans, alumni, and Hope himself, who proclaimed that it would be his best team with many starters returning. Moreover, with both Ohio State and Penn State serving bowl bans that year, the Boilermakers had a strong opportunity to win the Leaders division title. However, after a 3-1 non-conference start, the team would then open Big Ten play with five straight losses.
However, the NCAA only lists Southern California as the national champion for 1931, and does not credit Purdue with any national championships in football. Tiller revolutionized the conference with his passing attacks led by quarterbacks like Drew Brees. Brohm got Purdue back to that level of success with explosive offenses designed around the quarterback. Purdue opened a new three-level football complex in 2017 with all the amenities a team could need. Any vehicles towed during athletic events will be taken to the lot at the southwest corner of Harrison Street and South Russell Street.
Logos and uniforms
While operating without a director until 1904, the band had started playing at Purdue football games and had grown to over 50 members. His experience as a conductor resulted in his election as band president and director the next year. During his senior year at Purdue, the marching band, under Emrick, became the first band to break ranks and form a letter on the field—the famous Block "P".
Similarly, Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell has stayed in Ames longer than most people expected, and coming off a 4-8 season, his window for a major job may be closing. He’s an Ohio native who played at Mount Union and had coached only in Ohio from 2003 to 2015 before leaving for Iowa State. He’s done a remarkable job with the Cyclones, achieving the highest level of sustained success in more than a century. He went 9-3 in 2020 with a Fiesta Bowl win and beat Oklahoma multiple times. If he feels he’s hit a ceiling and wants to get into the Big Ten, perhaps Purdue could be a fit.
Will Purdue stick with the offensive head coach?
The Dawgs are 11th nationally in scoring this year and quarterback Stetson Bennett developed into a Heisman Trophy finalist. In his one stint as a head coach, Monken inherited a 0-12 Southern Miss team in 2013 and produced a 9-5 season by 2015 with a division championship before leaving for an NFL coordinator job. The 56-year-old Illinois native has seen up close how to run a program in the Nick Saban/Kirby Smart mold. This was changed in 2006 to a sledgehammer with the slant "P" in the hammer's head . In the 2006 game against the Indiana State Sycamores, Purdue wore a throwback uniform from 1966, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the school's first Rose Bowl team.
Army head coachJeff Monken is in nine years, with four seasons of at least nine wins after taking over a program that had one winning season in the previous 17 years. The Illinois native was a finalist for the Illinois job last year and his name has popped up around a few jobs. Army is 5-6 this season and won’t go to a bowl game even at 6-6, but it’s still a strong track record. Monken has tried to emphasize that he doesn’t have to run the triple-option offense at another school amid concerns that it has held him back from getting a bigger job.
Team Stats
In the 1930s the dynamometer was decommissioned and the Schenectady No. 2 was retired as the railroad industry in the United States converted from steam to diesel-electric locomotives. Chase Brown registered 130 total yards – 98 on the ground and 32 through the air – and two rushing touchdowns, his third multi-touchdown game of the season. Brian Hightower made five catches for 89 yards and recorded a touchdown reception in the third quarter. According to the Rose Bowl's own website, the historic bowl game is contractually required to take the Big Ten champion if they're available. Purdue had a press conference with Brohm and Mike Bobinski at 10 a.m.

Coming off a victory over Illinois on the road, the team welcomes Northwestern to Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday, marking the final home matchup of the year. The Boilermakers and Wildcats are scheduled to kick off at noon ET. The game marks Senior Day for the Boilermakers, who have a total of 27 seniors on the roster. A win would give them a 4-2 record at home for the 2022 campaign and the third victory over the Wildcats in the last four years. Four Boilermakers, Bob Griese, Leroy Keyes, Mark Herrmann and Drew Brees have each been finalist for the award in two separate seasons.
College football picks, schedule: Championship Weekend
Burnham's 1943 squad went 9–0 and shared the Big Ten Conference title with Michigan. The 1943 squad was the only undefeated team playing a full schedule in major college football, but finished third in the country per the AP Poll. This would seemingly be sufficient grounds for Purdue to claim a 1943 National Championship as the NCAA itself did not recognize champions in the era. Cecil Isbell started out at Purdue as an assistant coach and took over as head coach in 1944. He was the first Purdue alumnus to become the head football coach. On December 5, 2012, it was announced that Darrell Hazell would leave the Kent State Golden Flashes to become the head coach of the Boilermakers.

Of those 20 bowl appearances, the Boilermakers have participated in 1 "major" Division I-A/FBS bowl games, which was part of the BCS Bowl Games. The Boilermakers have never played in a National Championship Game. On December 5, 2016, Purdue hired Jeff Brohm to become head coach of the football program.
He’s without a losing season, and Toledo led the MAC in scoring in each of the past two years. If Louisville wasn’t home, Brohm leaving a Big Ten job for an ACC job would be more shocking. The Big Ten’s financial resources continue to grow far larger than anyone else outside of the SEC, and they’ll increase again with the upcoming TV deal. Luke Fickell left Cincinnati for Wisconsin in part because of resources and what can be done in NIL. Big Ten jobs will become even more coveted in the future as the money gets bigger and bigger.

Purdue bounced around with many different head coaches until 1921, with most having little to no success coaching at Purdue. However, Purdue did hire Andy Smith (1913–15) and William Henry Dietz , both of which would go on to become College Football Hall of Fame members. Tiller inherited a program that had only had two winning seasons in the previous 18 years. However, the Boilermakers made an immediate splash in the second game of his rookie season with a nationally televised upset of Notre Dame. Tiller would go on to lead the Boilermakers to ten bowl berths in 12 years, most notably the 2001 Rose Bowl. Prior to Tiller's arrival, Purdue had played in only five bowl games, most recently the 1984 Peach Bowl.
The old gold uniforms had white numerals and black outline for home games, and white uniforms with old gold numbers and back outline for away games. Some complained that the numerals on the jersey were too hard to see, so in 2003 they changed to an old gold jersey with black numerals outlined in white, and white pants with two black stripes down the sides. After losing their opening game at home to Bowling Green, Tiller and the team decided to dump the gold jerseys and go back to the black uniforms.
After another round of #BrohmWatch, Coach Jeff Brohm is leaving Purdue to return home as the head coach of Louisville. This leaves Purdue with a spot to fill for its upcoming Citrus Bowl matchup with LSU. As reported by Tom Dienhart (@TomDienhart1) on Twitter, Purdue is filling Jeff’s spot with his brother and co-offensive coordinator / QB coach, Brian.
On the shoulder is the player's number in old gold, and on the sleeve, there is an old gold stripe at the bottom. The pants are old gold with one black stripe along each side, with the Purdue train logo right above it. The helmet is old gold with a black stripe down the middle, a black facemask, and a black slanted "P" logo on each side. The shoulders have black numerals on them, and the sleeve has a black stripe at the bottom. Both home and away jerseys sport the Purdue train logo in the center front of the collar, surrounded by a patch of black fabric. The away pants are black one old gold stripe on each side as well as the Purdue train logo.
